It all goes back to year 1965. Spencer Davis Group was recording a single for the label Phillips Germany after having released its number one hit “Keep on Running”. Alongside the guitarist and a former German teacher Spencer Davis, Steve Winwood and his older brother Muff also the upcoming drummer Pete York was a member of the band. The producer of the session was Siggi Loch. “We’ve been friends ever since”, Pete York, who turned 70 in August, reminisces. “Maybe it is Siggi’s birthday present that I got the chance to release this album on ACT”.

Psychedelic music born from jams with a lush groove of drums and percussion, a dense foundation of keys and bass, and flute and guitar soaring above them. The septet from Moscow experiments with genres, entering the territory of prog rock, blues rock, stoner and funk.
«The debut album of the psychedelic ensemble has resolutely set out to deliver us more rural sprawl. This music strongly recommends the practice of photosynthesis.»
An album by psychonauts from Moscow set out to bring us more countryside and fresh air. This music is worth taking up breathing practices.»

Milk & Kisses shouldn’t be as good as it is. Riven by years of interpersonal tensions brought on by the romantic relationship (and subsequent dissolution) between vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist Robin Guthrie as well as the aftereffects of Guthrie’s substance abuse (and recovery), Cocteau Twins was a band on its last legs in the mid-’90s. Despite the fact they were ultimately winding down, this period was remarkably collaborative and incredibly productive. (Milk & Kisses was preceded by a pair of standalone EPs that—just like in the band’s formative years—presented cohesive sonic concepts of their own; Twinlights was a largely acoustic affair, with piano-and-guitar versions of old and new songs, while Otherness brought in Seefeel’s Mark Clifford to remix a handful of tracks.)
