The first Roma play of fate, or gipsy musical, Somnakaj, was born as a result of the serious preparatory work of several well-known Hungarian artists and creators.
The artists and performers from different cultural backgrounds and scenes reflect the diversity of Roma culture. The cast includes well-known national and international singers and musicians.
The songs have never been sung in such a guise anywhere before. The programme included authentic Roma folk songs in their traditional form, modern arrangements of these songs, Marko Markovic’s Roma composition reflecting Balkan influences, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos’ Roma jazz song, improvisations, arrangements of Romano Drom and Ternipe songs, rap and slam inserts.
Edina Szirtes Mókus and Antal Kovács orchestrated a reinterpretation of everything the audience thought they knew about Gypsy music.

A puzzling paradox: although Vivaldi devoted over 30 years to composing for the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, no complete musical setting of any liturgy by him has come down to us. By intercalating existing examples of his sacred music (such as the famous Gloria) and other works given a different text to suit their new liturgical function (Sanctus and Agnus Dei), the ensemble Les Arts Florissants now offers us a compelling reconstruction of a solemn Mass which the “Red-Haired Priest” might have written… for just such an assembly of exceptional soloists!

“Are Schumann’s late works the product of a household where a physically and mentally declining composer and his wife, who refused to admit that reality, were living in a stuffy atmosphere? Or was Schumann’s Düsseldorf circle a fruitful terrain that gave rise to magnificent masterpieces because these close, talented friends – Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Albert Dietrich, Johannes Brahms, and Joseph Joachim – continually inspired one another? For this recording, Sophie and I have chosen a programme that attempts to answer those questions. All the chamber music works on this CD are from the period between 1849 and 1854, thus stemming from the Schumanns’ time in Düsseldorf. The personal and musical connections between Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Joseph Joachim are intrinsically present in all these works. Those biographical relationships are interesting for us as interpreters because they give rise to special moods we can sense in the music. We want to fathom them, to feel them, and to make them palpable for the listener: this is one of the most exciting projects we have ever undertaken as performers.

Sophie Dervaux, Munich Chamber Orchestra – J.C. Bach & J.M. Haydn (2022)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 59:08 minutes | 1,07 GB | Genre: Classical
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Berlin Classics
With her new album, Sophie Dervaux brings to the fore two composers who have received less attention so far – despite their great surnames Bach and Haydn. For it is not works by “our old favorites” Johann Sebastian and Joseph that the bassoonist has chosen for her third recording on Berlin Classics, but rather Bach’s youngest son – Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782) – and Johann Michael Haydn (1737-1806), Joseph Haydn’s younger brother. Sophie Dervaux has been principal bassoonist of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra since 2015. Previously, she was principal contrabassoonist of the Berlin Philharmonic. As an ambassador for her instrument, she is committed to expanding the repertoire for bassoon by rediscovering works or commissioning new ones. She has been a “Püchner Artist” since 2014 and is passionate about making her instrument even better known.
