The popular vinyl series of Steely Dan reissues continues with the 1980 masterpiece “Gaucho”, their last album before a lengthy 20-year album hiatus. The album also marked the end of a number of truly unrivalled years in music with classic album after classic album from one of the most exquisite sounding bands in music history. Like all vinyl reissues in the series, the album has been remastered by Bernie Grundman from an analogue tape copy.
The 1980 set featured the U.S. Top 10 hit “Hey Nineteen” and other enduring fan favorites such as “Time Out Of Mind” (with guest lead guitar by Mark Knopfler) and “Babylon Sisters.” Other guests on the album included Michael McDonald, Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Purdie, Ralph MacDonald, Hugh McCracken, the Brecker Brothers, and David Sanborn.
Gaucho, released in November 1980, reached No.9 on the all-genre Billboard album chart, also reaching the Top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, and Norway, and the Top 20 in such countries as Sweden and Canada. At the 1982 Grammy Awards, it won Best Engineered Recording – Non-Classical, and had further nominations as Album of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. It was certified both gold and platinum by the RIAA in January 1981.
The series is returning the band’s bespoke catalog to vinyl, in many cases for the first time since their original release. Gaucho has been remastered by Bernie Grundman from a 1980 analog tape copy that was originally EQ’d by Bob Ludwig. Gaucho and Aja have been thus remastered as there is no evidence that the original tapes, containing the flat mixes of the albums, were delivered to the record label, so it is presumed that the tapes no longer exist.

The setlist at the O2 Arena featured the lineup of Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Andrew Bown, John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, and Matt Letley [in his final UK performance as Quo’s drummer] delivering a slew of classic songs and even included a Christmas Medley with “Walking In A Winter Wonderland,” “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” and Quo’s own “It’s Christmas Time.”

The soundtrack to Robert Wise’s film version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is being reissued across multiple formats, with a super deluxe edition offering “every musical element” from the film and a Dolby Atmos Mix.
The musical features classics such as as ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Edelweiss’ and Robert Wise walked away with Best Picture and Best Director Oscars (being director and co-producer) at the 1966 Academy Awards.
The new reissue is led by a 4CD+blu-ray super deluxe which features over 40 previously unreleased tracks, including 11 never-before-heard alternate takes and instrumentals of each song for that singalong-a-Sound-of-Music experience. The blu-rays capacity allows it to deliver the full score in hi-res stereo audio and well as a Dolby Atmos Mix of the 16-track original soundtrack.

For its final concert of the 2021–22 season and Osmo Vänskä’s last as artistic director, the Minnesota Orchestra chose to present Mahler’s mammoth Eighth Symphony, which calls for one of the largest complement of performers in the history of music, a symbol of the communitarian spirit of collective cultural, social and religious-philosophical endeavour in what has been referred to as a ‘Mass for the Masses’. Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, unlike his others, reveals no contrary despairing voice. It is instead a monumentally affirmative expression of human spiritual achievement achieved through the union of two seemingly incompatible texts: the Latin hymn Veni Creator Spiritus and the conclusion of the second part of Goethe’s Faust. Its première in Munich in September 1910 gave rise to the greatest triumph of Mahler’s career, and a rollcall of European royalty and the artistic élite attended the final public rehearsal and the performances. The Minnesota Orchestra and Osmo Vänskä are here joined by Carolyn Sampson, Jacquelyn Wagner, Sasha Cooke, Jess Dandy, Barry Banks, Julian Orlishausen, Christian Immler as well as the Minnesota Chorale, the National Lutheran Choir, the Minnesota Boychoir and the Angelica Cantanti Youth Choir.
