After a series of inspiring meetings Matt Bianco (Mark Reilly) and New Cool Collective noticed that their style of music and work were a perfect match. They sent ideas back and forth between London and Amsterdam, which first resulted in an EP containing 5 tracks. Fourbrand new songs and one remake of the well-known Matt Bianco hit ‘Don’t Blame It On That Girl’. They went on ‘The Things You Love’-tourshortly after and due to the great success and demand for more music New Cool Collective and Matt Bianco decided to record a complete album. Five new numbers appear on the disc alongside the EP tracks: including ‘Cry’, the superb combi with Clean Bandit singer Elisabeth Troy, and a Matt Bianco & New Cool Collective makeover of one of NCCs own songs: The result is a swinging version of the song ‘Bring It On’.
Mark Reilly about the collaboration with NCC: “…I had heard NCC’s name but was not familiar with its music. I was really impressed by NCC’s musical and energetic sound after seeing some videos. The band’s influences are very similar to my own but different enough to make an interesting collaboration…

Mark Reilly’s Matt Bianco have been around since the 80s and though the hits might have dried up, Reilly has continued to work and record with different band line ups. One of their most successful recent outings was 2016’s ‘The Things You Love’ which was a collaboration with Dutch band, New Cool Collective. Reilly and the Collective share the same inspirations and motives so a joint effort in many ways was logical. Four years later Matt Bianco and the Dutch team are back together for the 10 tracker that is ‘High Anxiety’… a musical mixed bag that offers contemporary takes on Latin jazz, smooth jazz, classic pop, blue-eyed soul and – a style new to both parties – South American cumbia – a sound that is a hybrid of the music of native South Americans and enslaved Africans, tempered with European traditions.

Formed by ex-members of modern jazz ensemble Blue Rondo a la Turk, Matt Bianco evolved into one of England’s top jazz-pop bands.
The contemporary jazz group Matt Bianco enjoyed considerable success in the ’80s, but the band was short-lived. It originally included a singer named Basia, who soon after the band’s demise embarked on a successful solo career, keeping Bianco keyboardist Danny White as a collaborator. More than 20 years later, Matt Bianco has reformed, and from the sound of their reunion album, Matt’s Mood (Decca), the group members seem to be enjoying making music together again. Basia and the band’s other original singer, Mark Reilly, share vocal responsibilities; the Brazilian “Ordinary Day” features harmonies unmistakably Basia, and while Reilly sings lead on the jazzy “Wrong Side of the Street,” Basia takes a chorus in her native Polish. The playful “Ronnie’s Samba” salutes deceased saxophonist Ronnie Ross, who played in Matt Bianco’s original incarnation. One quibble: The fadeout at the end of the closing track, “Matt’s Mood III,” makes the tune feel unfinished-such a vigorous instrumental jam really calls for a decisive ending-but overall this is a fun and welcomed comeback album.
